The natural thermal and structural properties of Durban’s two main types of roofs, tile and metal, ensure that this is still the most popular form of roofing material. So, with an aged and deteriorated roof, we would always consult and inspect to provide you with the best solution, whether that be restoration or replacement.
There are also technological advantages that come with modern tile and metal roofs. So, if your home has a roof older than 40 years, then a re-roof with a new tile or metal roof can provide you with long lasting benefits.
New Roof & Re-Roofing:
There are countless reasons why Durban households make the decision to have a roof replacement. Many homeowners invest in re-roofing when they notice their roof is looking tired and old, and is in need of a complete facelift.
In some cases, damage has exceeded the point of roof restoration and re-roofing is the only option. Some homes are being extended and new roofing is needed for the new area.
There are certain homeowners that want to update their roof completely and want to make the switch from say metal to roof tiles. For unlucky households, the option to re-roof is completely thrust upon them after a ferocious storm has destroyed the roofing. In this case, emergency re-roofing is a necessity.
Roof Repairs
A high quality roof restoration is a fantastic way to reinvigorate and modernise the look of your home, while also serving as preventative maintenance to protect your home from the weather and water damage.
With a full roof restoration, we will replace all chipped and broken terracotta tiles, replace rusted and damaged valley irons and flashings, re-bed and point all cement work and pressure clean the roof surface. For concrete tile roofs, this is followed with application of our three coat membrane system.
We use high quality acrylic primers, sealers and coloured top-coat to restore the look, and protect the roof surface. These coatings produce a water impervious, UV resistant membrane that protects the underlying tile against water absorption and the harsh South African sun. Additional features of our restorations are our gable conversions and fascia covers, creating a high quality finished look around the entire edge of your roof.
Barge Boards
Your roof and eaves are always exposed to harsh outside African elements like rain, wind, dust and high levels of UV. These factors continuously cause your fascia boards to wear out over time leading to damaged roofing, gutters, and eaves not to mention the threat of worn and peeling paint, rotten boards, detachment and leakage making matters worse.
Eaves are known to serve the crucial purpose of keeping water away from your property. The fascia boards and eaves act as a barrier safeguarding the roof to maintain a distance from the walls and protects the roof’s guttering system. It enables proper runoff of the rainwater and prevents moisture seepage through the internal walls.
If your eaves are damaged, it fails to perform this function and as a result, you may experience problems like water leakage into your property through sidewalls, ceiling and also foundations. This shows how essential it is to maintain the condition of your roof regularly
Painting
Roof and Cladding painting is a specialty of ours and we are the market leaders in this area with a very long, proven track record of large successful painting contracts.
We expertly and carefully treat any roof rust, correctly prepare the roof and then apply the protective paint coating to the roof. The type of paint and specification used will be specifically and correctly selected for your roof and your requirements. We use a number of tried and tested, first rate quality paint products from reputable suppliers.
Some of these paint products include:
- Acrylic paints
A multi-coat system, that when used in conjunction with our rust preparation techniques will give your roof an extended lifespan. Additionally a large range of colour applications are available .
- Epoxy paints
Compared with other paint applications, epoxy paints have superior corrosion resistance, last longer and offer “marine grade” protection for your roof. These coatings are specifically recommended for properties located in corrosive environments or for extensive roof corrosion protection.
- Polyurethane paints
These are similar to epoxy paints. When compared with mainstream paint products, polyurethane paints offer superior corrosion resistance. This application can be tailored to your roof needs in order to achieve maximum corrosion protection. There are also a wide range of colours to choose from.
- Silver (bitumen aluminium) paints
Generally used over previous bitumen coatings or on torched waterproofing systems. We can apply this system as needed to restore your previous roof coatings.
- Radiant Heat Barrier paints / Heat Reflective paints
Radiant Heat Barrier/Heat Reflective paints when applied to roof surfaces will substantially decrease the temperature inside resulting in more comfortable living/working conditions and reducing electricity used on air conditioning. For some clients it is vital to maintain cooler temperatures inside the building to protect stock, machinery etc. Roof heat reflective barrier paints can greatly assist this.
Ceilings
Flush plasterboard ceilings allow for creativity in the planning of a ceiling space. Being such a versatile medium the ceiling can easily become a design feature in a room.
Also known as fixed ceilings, they allow options for special features, such as lighting troughs, coffers, bulkheads and pelmets. They can be finished with a decorative cornice or designer ceiling trims to create clean lines, subtle curves, shadows and different levels and features.
Another advantage of flush plasterboard ceilings is their ability to provide an energy efficient heating solution. By lowering the ceiling it provides a layer of thermal insulation, preventing hot air from rising and thus retaining heat. Additionally, the layer of air trapped between the original ceiling and suspended ceiling effectively acts as a secondary insulator.
